Well, if you’re doing something, it pays to do something right. We already have confirmation that Windows 10 will natively support the popular MKV format.
But what good is that if the playback is without the accompanying subtitles.
Awesome news is that Microsoft’s new operating system will play nicely with subtitles in many of the popular formats — from simple SRT to SSA and ASS. UTF8 unformatted subtitles are also picked up, allowing for straightforward usage.
The above are three of the most popular formats for subtitles, and exquisitely used in a variety of online media as well as home users that convert their videos.

This should go well with support for MKV container and the various videos that are packed into this format. Subtitles can now simply be added into this container along with the audio and video tracks and other media information.
Hopefully we get to see what kind of options and font formatting styles Microsoft plans on including for these subtitles, but this should be evident as more preview builds are released.
