Spotify is actively encouraging iOS users to stop paying for streaming via iTunes
Spotify, like most streaming music services, will cost you $9.99 per month. The company has long charged those who pay for its service via iTunes $12.99 monthly to offset Apple’s 30 percent cut of purchases. Now, Spotify is actively encouraging users to step away from iTunes for payments.
The Verge got its hands on a guide Spotify is sending to users, which outlines specifically how to stop paying via iTunes and pay Spotify directly. It has links for both stopping payment via iTunes and signing back up via Spotify.
It’s a tricky juggling act, though. To avoid interruptions in service, you’ll have to sign up via Spotify right about the time your iTunes payments end. If you can’t manage to get that done, you can always stream Spotify for free for a bit.
This is an interesting move for Spotify, who don’t seem to have felt the pinch from Apple Music. Then again, once Apple Music is no longer free to use, subscribers may start examining the cost-benefit ratio.
