Facebook Stickered for Messenger (for iPhone)
Facebook Stickered for Messenger (for iPhone)
Facebook Messenger is perennially among app store chart leaders, despite a glut of messaging app options. The big, creative, amusing stickers the app lets you send in messages may deserve some of the credit for this popularity, as they’re not available in more staid messaging apps like iMessage and WhatsApp. Stickered for Messenger (free) takes stickers to a level beyond what you can do in the basic Messenger app by letting you place these smilies, cartoon animals, and impact text on top of your own photos. Let’s take a closer look to see whether Facebook’s silliest app to date and the latest to trickle out of Facebook’s Creative Labs (joining the likes of Slingshot andRooms) is a must-download.
Getting Stickered
The app requires iOS 8 or later, and it’s a relatively tiny 2MB download, so it won’t tax your data connection or take much time to install. You have to give the app access to your camera, otherwise it’s not of much use.
Stickered for Messenger could be the easiest app to get going with in history. There’s no setup at all, and you don’t even need a Facebook account to use it. When you first run the app, you’ll see the default smiley sticker with his mouth gaping open over your selfie camera view. If you want to add stickers to existing photos on your iPhone, you can do that, too.
You can move the sticker around or resize it with a pinch. A plus icon lets you add as many more stickers as you like, so images can get garish pretty quickly.
You can choose from 51 sets of stickers, including the Bun, Hamilton the hamburger, meme text, and new holiday sets. Luckily, there’s a garbage can icon, which is a little different from most of its brethren: Rather than deleting the whole image, it just deletes the currently selected sticker, a miniature form of which shows up next to it.
One thing you can’t do is move stickers forward or backward to change which ones appear on top of others. Nor can you do anything with the underlying photo, such as moving or scaling. But after all, it’s a text sticker app, not Photoshop CC.
Following the trend of Facebook Creative Labs’ other apps, the interface is stripped to a bare minimum. The only interface elements are the trash can, the plus sign, and a shutter button. Once your image is garish or witty enough for you, you tap the circular shutter button, which then changes to a Facebook Messenger icon. Tapping this opens Messenger with your perfected image and a list of your chat friends. You can select as many contacts as you like, add an optional text message, and hit Send. It’s really kind of fun.
If you just want to save your embellished image, you can send it to the camera roll and use it in any photo-accepting app you like.
If you’re the type who likes digital scrapbooking, you’re likely to love Stickered for Messenger. Even if you’re not, the app provides a fun way to pester your friends during the holidays.
