Facebook begins selling concert tickets directly on events pages
Bringing livestreaming to everyone wasn’t all the news Facebook had in store today; a BuzzFeed report indicates the company has begun selling concert tickets directly through events pages.
The option appears via simple a ‘Buy Tickets’ button, which will take you to a shopping interface right within the Facebook app or website.
The company is currently partnering with a select few independent venues, artists and promoters, and it’s not taking any cut of the ticket price for now.
The feature is also currently only active in the Bay Area, so don’t expect to see any local concerts outside that region immediately.
Somewhat strangely, so far the company isn’t offering printouts or electronic tickers; you’ll have to pick them up at will call. That’s probably a logistical matter as Facebook fleshes out the feature.
It’s not an unexpected move, as reports have been flying around about concert ticketing for months now. It’s another move in Facebook’s continued commercialization, following updates yesterday making Messenger more powerful for businesses.
No word on when it will expand to other regions, but we’ve contacted Facebook for more information and will update this post if we hear back.
