Alcatel OneTouch Go Play
Alcatel OneTouch Go Play
Alcatel launched the OneTouch Go Play targetted at those who are always on the move and who have the habit of dropping their smartphones into water, on the street and what not. The Go Play is a rugged Android smartphone, which accompanies the IP67 certification.
The phone also features a 5-inch 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset with 1GB of RAM and 8GB storage, which is further expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. The device comes with a 8 megapixel autofocus camera on the back, as well as a 5 megapixel front shooter.
The Go Play is powered by a 2500mAh battery. For a price point of AED 699, this one is a very attractive option for those looking for a rugged smartphone with average specs. The Go Play is shock-proof, water-proof and dust-proof – so it can take quite a beating. The overall design and build quality is quite good.
On the left edge of the phone, you will find the nano SIM slot and the microSD card slot. On the right edge, you have got the volume rockers and the power button. On the top edge, you have the 3.5mm headphone jack which is covered by a rubberised plug with a microphone sitting next to it. On the bottom you have the microUSB port which covered by a plug and a secondary microphone.
The phone is available in a 8 colours such as blue, orange, red, yellow, black and so on. We received the blue version for a test drive. In terms of operating system, the Go Play runs on Android Lollipop OS. In terms of connectivity, the phone support 4G LTE networks, in addition to offering Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth functionalities.
We ran the AnTuTu benchmark on the OneTouch Go Play to assess the real world performance. We were able to score just 25851 points, which points to the entry to mid-level specs that accompany the device as the culprit.
But then, this device is really meant to be rugged and at the same time should be able to get the job done. In such a scenario, the Alcatel One Touch Go Play does score a few brownie points. If you are on the market for a rugged device that you can carry around without having to worry about carelessly dropping the device around and getting it damaged, the Alcatel OneTouch Go Play could be one of the options you could look at.
