Spartan To Replace Internet Explorer In Windows 10
The writing has been on the wall for a while now, and we pretty much have an unofficial confirmation. Internet Explorer will be replaced with Spartan in Windows 10.
Having said that, Redmond still is trying to find a better name for their new web browser — even if some believe that the company will keep the codename for the final version of Spartan. Expect the Microsoft branding before the new name, though.
And that is because putting it in front helps with the consumer appeal of almost all products.
The Verge reports here that the software titan is keen on discontinuing the Internet Explorer branding in its new operating system, with Chris Capossela, the marketing chief at Microsoft confirming that new names are currently under consideration.
In fact, consumer research involving Google Chrome users has revealed that the Microsoft brand still appeals to end users, no matter their browser of choice.
Capossela explains:
“Just by putting the Microsoft name in front of it, the delta for Chrome users on appeal is incredibly high.”
So basically, Microsoft may end up keeping Internet Explorer on a few versions of Windows 10, most likely those targeted at enterprises.
But Spartan will be made available as a modern application to all users and on all sorts of devices, from PCs to tablets and smartphones. A bold move like this is sure to help Redmond step away from the negative perception associated with Internet Explorer.
The writing has been on the wall for a while now, as said.
