Now You Can Do a Google Reverse Image Search From Your Phone
Chatting with a hottie on Tinder and want to do a little background check before you actually meet up with them?
If you were on a desktop, you could use Google’s reverse image search tool to make sure the person isn’t lying about their identity, but unfortunately you don’t have the same privilege from a mobile device — until now. A Web developer by the name of Amit Agarwal has done us all a huge favor and created a wrapper of Google Image Search that works on mobile devices.
The tool lets you perform a reverse image search from your phone in just a few simple steps. Just head over to the site from your phone or tablet, click the “Select Image” button, and pick any photo on your device. You will, of course, first need to save the image you want to search to the Galley app on your Android or the Photos app on iOS.
Once you select the photo, just tap “Search” to perform a reverse image search on Google, just like you would on the desktop. The tool runs in your mobile browser and redirects right to Google Image Search. Agarwal said the tool won’t store or share any of your data with any other apps.
For the uninitiated, Google’s reverse image search will show you all the other Web pages on the Internet that have similar images. Besides helping you pre-stalk your Tinder dates, the new mobile version should be useful when you’re looking to find the source of a snap you spotted online.
