Move over Spotify and Apple Music: TuneIn is entering the subscription game.
The streaming radio service today announced TuneIn Premium, available now in the U.S. for $7.99 per month. It promises more than 600 commercial-free music stations, unlimited access to more than 40,000 audiobooks, and 16 language-learning stations.
TuneIn Premium is also available in Canada and the U.K. for $8.99 CAD and £5.99 per month, respectively, and will expand to additional countries in the future.
“With the introduction of TuneIn Premium, we are taking the world’s best audio content and putting it all in one place,” CEO John Donham said in a statement. “In today’s crowded audio landscape, our focus on exclusive news, talk, sports, and music allows us to deliver an unparalleled listening experience to our users.”
In an attempt to compete with big names like Spotify Premium and the new Apple Music—both $9.99 per month—TuneIn is adding live play-by-play coverage of all Major League Baseball games.
“TuneIn gives fans multiple baseball channels so they can listen to every live game as well as a variety of MLB.com and MLB Network programming, including fantasy baseball, talk shows and baseball-themed entertainment, and individual stations devoted to their favorite teams,” said Kenny Gersh, executive vice president of business for MLBAM.
The U.K.’s Barclays Premier League and Germany’s Bundesliga matches also air on the service.
Users can access TuneIn Premium via the existing free TuneIn Radio app, which offers more than 100,000 streaming stations and 5.7 million on-demand programs and podcasts, from stations like NPR, ESPN Radio, TED, This American Life, CBS Radio, and Univision. Download it from theiTunes App Store or Google Play store.
