Twitter Will Show Embedded Periscope Videos in Timeline

Periscope has been the thing since last year and the hype has helped it reach the milestone of 100 million video broadcasts since its launch in March 2015. With such popularity, it definitely came as a surprise why Twitter has not integrated the service to its social network. This changes today, as Twitter will no longer be the “middleman” for the Periscope site or app and those messy links for Periscope are gone for good.

Periscope is one of the live streaming apps like Meerkat and Facebook Live for Mentions. The Periscope team has announced that Periscope and Twitter are now truly integrated. Twitter users will now be able to watch and interact with Periscope broadcast videos from within their Twitter timeline. It’s a massive improvement over the old method where users used to click on the link to open another app or website. Broadcasts will autoplay right from the Tweet.

Users can go full screen by simply tapping on the video. Full screen mode also enables the hearts and user comments just like the Periscope app. Pretty much all the necessary functions of the Periscope app are available within the Twitter app. Twitter users won’t be able to broadcast from the app though. They will need the Periscope app for that.

Now comes the bad news. Unfortunately, the new feature is only available for iOS users at present. All Apple users will get the Twitter update within the next few days. Meanwhile, Twitter and Periscope say that Android users will to wait for a bit and that the feature will be rolled out “as soon as it’s ready”. Web users are also put on queue and will have to wait for their turn until Android users get the feature.

With the iOS update ready, the Android update shouldn’t be that far behind. However, there is no indication of how long it might take for the web version of Twitter to get the update. The updated iOS app is available here. Please be aware that Twitter will consume much more data because of these autoplaying videos so stay on your toes when using the app over a 3G connection with limited data.
