It seems like device manufacturers can’t pack much larger batteries into their products, but thankfully, they’ll power up more quickly in the near future.

Chip maker Qualcomm has announced that its upcoming technology, which will feature in its 2016 offerings, will charge mobile devices from zero to 80 percent in only 35 minutes.

Phones and tablets without this feature typically take about an hour and a half to reach the same amount of charge.

The company says that Quick Charge 3.0 is about 27 percent faster than its predecessor, which is currently available on theGoogle Nexus 6, Sony Xperia Z4, Moto X Style, as well asSamsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Quick Charge 3.0 uses Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), a new algorithm developed in-house for devices to determine what power level to request at any point in time for optimum power transfer.

Plus, unlike the previous version that only offered four charging voltages, Quick Charge 3.0 supports voltages from 3.6V to 20V in 200mV increments for increased flexibility.

The new feature will be available with devices running Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430 processors that are slated for launch next year, and will also support USB-C connectors.

It should make the 820 a force to reckon with once it arrives. Qualcomm recently announced that its high-end chip will deliver better photos, as well as double the performance and battery life compared to the 810.
