Flickr Pro Returns With New Perks

Yahoo has resurrected its subscription-based Flickr Pro service more than two years after giving it the axe.

New members can buy into the program now for $5.99 per month or $49.99 per year. Existing Pro and Flickr Ad-Free account holders will be automatically upgraded to the new system with no change in price.

When Yahoo revamped its photo-sharing site in May 2013, CEO Marissa Mayer also announced the end of Flickr Pro.Comments

“We didn’t want to have Flickr Pro anymore” because everyone can create professional-level photos with today’s camera technology, she said at the time.

The Web giant appears to have had a change of heart, though, and this week introduced the new Flickr Pro, which is free of ads, and offers improved stats and better navigation for viewing data. Pro users can also track which of their photos are trending, and which have performed best over their Flickr lifetime.

This also marks the return of the Pro badge, which, like Twitter’s blue “verified” sticker, highlights Pro subscribers’ accounts.

Folks who pony up $50 for the annual plan also get perks like a 20 percent discount on Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography service and free standard U.S. shipping on company merchandise (like photo books and wall art), or 50 percent off international shipping ($25 minimum purchase).

In May, Flickr rolled out a series of updates—including uploaders, an intelligent Camera Roll, search, and mobile apps—for iOS and Android devices, as well as Windows and Mac.
