Appeer Brings Organic App Discovery to your Android Phone or Tablet

Given the sheer number of Android apps that are released everyday it’s quite easy to miss a great new app just because you didn’t have the time to sift through the Play Store or read one of our latest posts. In fact, most people only download apps which are recommended by their friends and family members, which means human recommendations hold more weight than typical promotions.

Appeer has been developed around the same premise and the app tries to bring real, organic, human recommendations to your Android devices. How the app works is quite simple though – it takes note of all the apps you have installed on your device (some privacy concerns would naturally arise) and then compares your app inventory with those of people who have interests similar to yours. If three or more people similar to you have an app which you don’t, Appeer recommends it to you.

While this is a lot like an automated word-of-mouth service, it also has a social element because while the app automatically finds and follows people similar to you, you can also add your own friends via their Appeer username (no integration with existing social networks though).

You also get your own timeline of apps you share with your Appeer social circle and you can set the app up to send you notifications of new recommendations.

While the developers claim that Appeer will never push paid promotions, we are assuming they intend to monetize their collected data (apps installed and used by certain categories and age groups) in the long run. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a good app discovery service, you should try Appeer.

At the time of writing their server was having issues and the app was loading really slow, but these initial bugs should be ironed out soon and the developers seem keen to update and improve the app based on user feedback.

We think Appeer is a neat idea if the developers can fine-tune it further and work on a truly intelligent interest-based app recommendation algorithm. If they focus on quality recommendations, the service could really take off.

Will you be trying Appeer? We’d love to hear what you have to say about it.
