It’s not often Microsoft talks about the performance of Windows Phone, but the interest in Windows 10 certainly is having a positive effect on the mobile operating system.

So much so that it is bringing more people to it.

The company is working to make its smartphone platform closer to the desktop version, convergence, and apparently this is an idea that users like — news and rumors about the changes to Windows Phone has resulted in more users checking it out.

Microsoft provided this information at MWC 2015, actually, and this video posted by Channel 9 has the lowdown on this success.

In the last 12 months, Redmond says, the number of Windows Phone active users grew by 50%.

Plus there are now more than 400,000 apps available for users in the Windows Phone Store, and this is a figure that has witnessed an increase of more than 60% in the last year.

Pretty good showing.

A lot it has got to do with the features Microsoft plans forWindows 10 for Phones, spanning them across form factors, PCs, tablets and smartphones.

And then there’s the small matter that even devices with 512MB of RAM, low end hardware, will also be upgradeable to Windows 10 for Phones. They will lack some features, yes, but upgradeable they will be once the new OS is out later this year.

More of this, please.
